Mission Possible: Matrimonial Motivation

Hello my fellow weight loss enthusiasts. This marks the beginning of the second full week of Mission Possible. I still have a BMI of 31 but I have now lost 3 pounds.

In case you’re new to Mission Possible, you may want to check out my introduction to the series, or my dieting manifesto. Essentially, I am determined to lose weight and I refuse to starve myself to do it. I am simply eating less and moving more. That’s it. No money spent (although I would join a gym if it were convenient), no starvation, binging, purging, no supplements, no special food–just me eating less and moving more.

Well last week I received some serious motivation in the mail. It came in the form of a wedding invitation to a couple of friends from my husband’s job. We are really obligated to go and of course, we want to be there. But I don’t want to go in this size. So I have a new goal to drop about 10 pounds before the wedding which should allow me to buy a smaller dress size.

I don’t know about you, but weddings here are generally formal affairs. Everything I own has spit up on it and comes so that I can easily breastfeed. So in order to attend in something suitable, I have to go shopping. I have the date circled in red on my calendar and by this date (September 4th) I am going to buy a nice dress in a size smaller.

Luckily for me, my husband has off this month. (This is a serious perk of working in education.) We still have to home school, we still have kids’ lessons to attend, and we still have some very nagging apartment repairs. But I’ve decided I’m going to use this time to fit in some serious work out time. I had been exercising about 10 minutes per day. We are now going to push ourselves a little more and see if we can fit in some form of movement for at least an hour every day. (For those of you who are thinking this is a little drastic. . .remember that I am chasing toddlers all day.)

However, the wedding invitation got me thinking about motivation so here’s my idea: set aside some cash to go for a night on the town. Make sure there’s enough cash there to buy a new dress. Shoot for a new dress size by a certain date and see if having a clearly defined goal will help you get moving and prick your conscience to eat healthier!
