Mom Does Hubby a Great Favor and Gives Birth Early

My husband may win Superdad of the Year award–he’s great. But I have to say, he most certainly did not start out that way. For each of my singleton births, my husband got progressively worse. He did everything from saying: “Oh honey, you can push harder. It can’t be that difficult,” to asking me to wait before I had a contraction because after all. . .he was busy watching Sports Center on ESPN! The only reason he was not this way at the birth of the twins is that I explained to him in no uncertain terms that he had better shape up or I would kick him out. He pulled no such shenanigans during the birth of Emily and Laura and consequently was allowed to stay throughout the delivery.

I thought that I had responded reasonably but I have to say that this guy’s wife may just have a little more love! You see, her baby was due Monday however when she went to the doctor she was given the option to be induced early. So what does a wife who truly understands the need for sports in her significant others’ life do? She chose to be induced on Friday so that her husband wouldn’t miss the game on Sunday. Apparently he is an absolutely avid Bears fan.

Now if you’re not a football fan it’s important to note that this was not just any old Bears vs. Saints game. . .it was a play off game. If you do not have a spouse who is an avid sports fan, let me just inform you that NOTHING comes in between a man and his sports. I would not put it past my own husband to feign illness to get out of attending a birth that may interfere with an important sports event.

The man, who was rooting for the Bears now has two things to celebrate this weekend: the birth of his son on Friday night and the Bears winning the championship game that will take them to the Super Bowl.
