Money Saving Decor Projects

Sure it would be nice to have a showroom of a home, complete with the finest accessories and decor, but hey, that just isn’t reality, or is it? I’ve come across some cool projects that we can do ourselves. For a hour or less and a little pocket change, we can wind up with stunning pieces to accessorize our homes.

For some reason, I wanted to focus on home craft projects that involve glass. I think this is because my recycling bin always seems to be overflowing with glass jars and bottles. Why not turn all of that glass into something special?

Enameled Bottles

Enameled bottles are pretty hot right now for the home. Gentle sea greens and blues and soft whites will give a bathroom a spa look or a bedroom a feel of staying at an upscale resort by the sea. Instead of paying $100 or more, learn how to make enameled bottles.

Woman’s Day has all of the instructions for this great craft project.

Etched Glass Jars

Leave it to Martha Stewart to come up with some great home craft projects. While some of her projects are a little too frou-frou for me (would you ever really have a use for a felted toaster cover?) I really like this tutorial on making your own etched glass jars.

The tutorial shows the finished project to be a set of kitchen storage jars, which is great, but you could also borrow this idea for other areas of your home, from vases, to plates to bathroom windows. Really, anything that is made of glass can be transformed to something designer with very little money, especially if you repurpose glass containers and objects that you already have.
