Moose’s Rain Caper

I’m still laughing as I write this.

I was just out walking the dogs. And for those of you who don’t know this, the Pacific Northwest is somewhat famous for its rain. So it’s no surprise to me that it started raining while we were walking.

Unfortunately, we were at the far side of the apartment complex when the downpour started. Lally was making her characteristic unhappy face — squinty eyes and ears back. Moose? Well, not much bothers Moose, rain included. I do have a nice waterproof coat with a hood, but I felt bad for Lally.

So we started to run.

Well… I should say we started to jog. I’m not much of a runner, and I wasn’t interested in slipping on wet grass or wet pavement.

Moose would run a few steps ahead of us, then stop and look back over his shoulder to see if we were still “chasing” him. Of course we were. But half the time, he’d haul up short and Lally and I would jog right into him. This was great fun for Moose, I guess, because he kept doing it. He was having so much fun that he decided to try to stop and wrestle Lally. She wasn’t much interested in that, and warned him off with a growl. He ran ahead a few steps, then turned back and tried to wrestle again.

Finally, the growling was enough to discourage him. Instead, he chose to stop and lick her ears.

By this point, I was laughing so hard I could barely run more than a few steps anyway. I eventually got us moving again, but we were back to the run a few steps and stop game. We were all soaked when we got back to the apartment, but really the laughs were more than worth it. I love my big goofy Moose!
