To end our study of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, I was going to make caterpillar cupcakes with the girls. However, my son used all the eggs for breakfast. So we decided to take a break from crafting and add in some music. We also reviewed the book through narration activities and learned about good and bad food choices and the food groups.

Narration and Nutrition Activities:

Letter focus “B”:
We made butterflies out of Bs! It’s a fun, easy, and inexpensive craft that will remind your child of the letter B. Of course, you can have fun with this and add googly eyes, pipe cleaners and so forth.
Butterfly B
Supplies:
Print out of the letter B. (two per child) You can find a printable I made along with fun extras HERE.
Scissors
Crayons, markers, stickers or embellishments of your choice.
Glue stick
Construction paper
Directions:
Cut out the letter “B” on both pages.
Allow your child to decorate the “B”s with the medium of your choice.
Now place the letters side by side with one letter upside down to give the effect of a butterfly.
Cut out a strip of construction paper to make the butterfly body. Also cut out two small strips to make the butterfly’s antennas.
Use your glue stick and apply glue to the caterpillar body and place on the seam of your two “B’s”. This should be enough to hold it all together. However, you may want to slightly overlap the “Bs”.
Now glue your antennas onto the butterfly.
