In a previous blog I shared my desire to tour Europe and offered some suggestions regarding where to tour if you were planning a trip to France. I also told you that I have been collecting information on tours of Switzerland and Austria (the other European locations I have a desire to visit).
The following are two walking/biking tours that caught my eye. Each is a 8-day/7-night tour that includes pick up and drop off at airport/train stations, breakfast and dinner each day, and fully researched walking and cycling route notes and maps. The other amenity I liked about these tours is that the price includes the services of a person who moves your luggage from inn to inn and is available on call for special assistance.
Also, all of the hotels (inns) that you are booked at through the tour have been previously inspected by a tour operator and most are three-star facilities that offer swimming pools and meals made with fresh, local produce.
SWITZERLAND
The “Walking in Gstaad” combo tour offers guided walks and mountain biking adventures in the beautiful southern hills of the Bernese Oberland, overlooking the picturesque Alpine villages of Gstaad and Saanen. The overnight accommodations feature an indoor pool, sauna, and gym. For the package price of $1,959 per person you get buffet breakfasts and all evening meals at the hotel’s gourmet restaurant.
AUSTRIA
The “Austrian Lakes Activity” combo tour features a stay at a luxury four-star hotel with secluded gardens, exquisite cuisine and a spa with an indoor pool, waterfall, whirlpool, and steam bath. The walking tour (rated “easy”) starts in the Austrian village of Stobl, on the eastern shore of Lake Wolfgang, one of the prettiest spots in the region. It winds through the area and offers optional detours for the more energetic. A side trip to Salzburg is also offered as is a lake cruise and sunbathing at local beaches. Continental breakfast and all evening meals are also included in the tour.
