More Fun Cake Ideas

Add some TLC and lots of your own creative touches to your cakes instead of ordering from the bakery. Surprise your kids, or let them have fun helping.

Even if you don’t consider yourself artistic, you can make lots of cute cakes. They are really pretty easy and remember they don’t have to be perfect. Your little tike will think that dinosaur cake is way cool, even if it isn’t a perfect, realistic reproduction of a T-rex. Just have fun with it!

Dinosaur Cake

Bake a 9” x 13” cake and allow it too cool completely (you will need two for an extra large dinosaur).

Find a simple line drawing of a dinosaur online or in a coloring book. Enlarge it as necessary

Cut out the picture and lay it on top of the cake (you may have to maneuver and do different sections at a time to fit it all in).

Cut around the shape with a sharp knife, making sure to cut all the way through.

Wrap a large piece of heavy cardboard in aluminum foil as a base for your cake.

Remove the pieces of the dinosaur from the cake pan and assemble on the base. You may want to use some frosting to “glue” the pieces together.

Add a few drops of green food coloring (or any color you like) to white frosting, mix thoroughly, and frost the entire care.

Decorate with piping gel, sprinkles, and candies.

Triangle shaped chips or cookies are great for making spikes down the dinosaurs back.

Add some fudge sauce and top with chocolate cookie crumbs or crumbled chocolate graham crackers near the bottom of the cake base to imitate dirt.

You can use this method to make almost any simple design your little ones can imagine.
