More Fun Cakes

Don’t just bake ordinary cakes, try some of these or the previous ideas instead!

Heart Shaped Cake

Even if you don’t have a heart shaped cake pan, don’t worry. Bake one round layer and one square one. When cool, remove them from the pans and place on a cookie sheet or base.

Turn the square cake so it looks like a diamond. Cut the round cake in half evenly. Place one half round on each top corner of the diamond, and you have a heart shape! Frost and decorate as desired.

*When piecing together cakes, it helps to use some frosting to “glue” the pieces together.

On the Road Cakes

A large, square cake can easily be cut into octagon and decorated to look like a stop sign, and a 13” x 9” cake can be frosted to look like a speed limit sign. Add little plastic cars for decorations or find car shaped candles.

Use a 13” x 9” pan to make a traffic light. Cut out three evenly space holes down the center and place cupcakes inside. Frost them in red, yellow, and green. Instead of cutting holes and using cupcakes, you can also frost three large cookies and simply lay them on top of the frosted cake. Surround the cake with new toy cars and trucks, and use red, yellow, and green candles.

You can use any shape pan you like for this idea. Frost the cake to look like a roadway, surrounded by grass (green frosting or a sprinkling of baker’s coconut with a little bit of green food coloring added), and some trees or other objects. Make a pond with some blue frosting. You can pick up little toy sets that include tiny road signs and trees and use them to top the cake along with cars and trucks.
