More Great Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas

I promised more ideas, and I am delivering! Making your own costumes is the most frugal way to go, but it can also be the most creative and fun way to go as well. Here are some more extremely unique but very fun ideas for Halloween costumes that you can make right at home with extremely cheap supplies. Please see the frugal blog for many more great costume ideas to save you money!

Angel

Use a white nightgown or dress. Cut wings out of white poster board. Decorate the wings with glitter, gold paints and attach to the dress with safety pins or with a scarf. Construct a halo out of silver or gold pipe cleaners. You can create a wand from pipe cleaners as well, or create one out of tin foil and poster board.

Butterfly

Use black dance leotard and tights. Leggings will work as well with a black turtleneck. Create antennae with pipe cleaners and Styrofoam balls. Make wings out of poster board and decorate with bright colors.

Crayon

Purchase two pieces of poster board in the color your child wants to be. Take one colored piece of poster board and create a tube around the person who will be wearing the costume. Secure with staples or heavy duty glue. Cut out arm holes. Child should either dress in a black leotard or black turtleneck, however wearing a turtleneck and leggings of the same color as the poster board makes much more sense. Decorate the tube to look like a crayon using markers, paint or fabric.
Slip the tube over the child’s head. Create a pointed cone hat out of the other piece of poster board and place on child’s head – the tip of the crayon. There you have a crayon!

Grapes

Use a green turtleneck and leggings to be the vine. You will need to blow up lots of purple balloons. Attach the balloons to the costume using tape or heavy duty glue. A big bunch of grapes!

Kitten

Purchase sweat shirt and sweatpants, or turtleneck and leggings in color you wish your cat to be. Create ears from poster board and attach to head with a bobby pin or glue to a headband. Use black pantyhose to create a tail and just pin to the back. You can also find cat ears, a tail and sometimes even a cute bow tie all in a set at Wal-mart for around $5.00 at Halloween.

Turtle

Use a green sweat suit or green turtleneck with leggings. Take a piece of poster board and paint to resemble a turtle’s shell. Cut the poster board into a large oval, and secure to back with heavy duty glue.

Spider

Use a black leotard, black sweat suit, or black turtleneck and leggings. To create the legs of the spider use inexpensive or damaged pantyhose. Stuff with dark papers, or anything else dark and real light weight. You can sew the legs to the costume but to save time you can also try stapling or gluing. You can also try pinning to the clothing but be sure to secure the ends of the pantyhose (tying off seems to work) and then pin in place.
