Puppy or Kitten Scrapbook

Purchase a ready to use scrapbook or make your own keepsake book (see related articles listed below). Save photos, old collars, charms, and other memorabilia to show how much your puppy or kitten has grown. A good idea is to make the left side a place to write down important events, shots, vet visits, birthday, etc., to document your dog or cat’s life and add photos and other memorabilia to the pages on the right. A cute way to decorate is to cover your book with fabric and then glue on dog biscuits covered with a coat of decoupage to protect them. Add a few charms. For kitty, make tiny fabric mice, like the patterns for mouse toys only extra small. Then roll up a tiny ball of yarn and glue it onto the cover as well. Cut out fabric letters or stencil on your pet’s name.

Fleece Toys

Instead of using rope like the previous tuggy toy project, you may want to try something softer for puppies or older pets. It will still keep your dog entertained and will help clean his teeth. Just take strips of fleece about 18” long and fold in half. Sew the open edge closed. Turn the tube right side out. Do this three times. Braid the tubes together and tie knots in each end. Double up the knots so puppy has something more substantial to grab onto. You can also make extra long braids and then roll them into a ball. Sew to keep in place. The fleece ball is great for dogs and cats. Choose fun prints and bright colors of fleece and make a bunch of them!

Washcloth Mouse

This project is a lot like the previous mouse project for your kitty. This time, instead of felt, you’ll use a thick washcloth to give it more texture. If kitty doesn’t like squeakers, or if you have trouble finding squeakers, use jingle bells instead. You can find small bells, like the type used at Christmas or the ones that people sometimes add to baby shoes, in the notions section of your favorite store. Cut out a circle, fold it in half, add jingle bells, and sew closed. Add a long tail made from a strip of rawhide. You can also use faux fur or fleece for this project.
