It is a convenient way for you to learn more about your favorite hobby – genealogy! Here are a few more online genealogy courses from FTU that are about to start.

Exploring City Directories: How to Trace Your Family History will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on August 5, 2012. I’ve never heard of a course that teaches this! You will learn how to locate city directories online and in archives. You will also learn the meanings of the common abbreviations found in them, and how to use the directories to create a picture of your ancestor’s neighborhood. The tuition for this class is $99.99. At the time that I am writing this blog, there are 8 seats available.

Finding African-American Ancestors in Newspapers: Research Strategies for Success will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on August 5, 2012. The instructor for this course will be Tim Pinnick. The tuition will cost $99.99. You will learn why newspaper research is vital for African-American researchers, how to locate newspapers in libraries, archives, and online, and how to find information about your family in black newspapers. To take this course, you will need to go get a copy of Tim Pinnick’s book, “Finding and Using African American Newspapers”. At the time I am writing this blog, there are 6 seats available.

First Steps: Using Birth Records will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on July 22, 2012. The tuition for this course is $39.99. This is a course designed to help beginning genealogists to develop solid foundation research skills. You will learn the basics on how to find, analyze, and cite birth records for your ancestors from the United States. It will be assumed that you already understand the basic principals of genealogy before you take this course. At the time that I am writing this blog, there are 15 seats available.

First Steps: Using Death Records will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on July 22, 2012. The tuition for this course is $39.99. At the time I am writing this blog there are 9 seats available. This is another course that assumes that you understand the basics principals of genealogy before you take this course. You will learn how to analyze official death certificates, how to use death indexes, and how to cite death records.
