More Ways to Salvage Shaky Shots

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology there is no need to trash blurry photos. While digital cameras allow you to preview shots and delete them if you are not happy, they also give you the opportunity to salvage out-of-focus shots with the help of photo-editing software.

Even the pros have bad days, so when you shoot a series of shaky shots, don’t let it shake your confidence. Instead, salvage those blurry images with one of the following image editing software programs:

FOCUS MAGIC

While Photoshop helps modify photos with mild to moderate blurring, Focus Magic comes to the aid of severely out-of-focus shots. According to the software’s designers, Focus Magic uses “advanced forensic strength deconvolution technology to eliminate blur and recover lost detail.” Translation: Focus Magic fixes extremely blurry digital photos.

Some of the outstanding features of the advanced software include:

*Repairs standard blurring issues

*Restores portions of an image, such as numbers on a license plate or letters on a shirt

*Increases resolution

*Removes digital noise by despeckling

Focus Magic also allows you to preview your edited image and compare it to the original, so that you can increase or decrease the distance from the subject. To do so, simply enter a value in the blur distance text box and adjust accordingly. Once you’ve previewed the shot, click “OK,” then wait while your digital photo is rendered and sharpened.

GIMP

GNU Image Manipulation Program, better known as GIMP, is one of the most popular and well respected free downloads available for photo editing. Some of the program’s features include:

*Painting tools, including gradient and blender

*Layers and channels

*Editable text layers

*Multiple selection tools

*Extraction tool

*Supports multiple file formats (including gif, jpeg, tiff and more)

Another feature that makes GIMP so popular is that the designers offer online tutorials to help you make the most of the product. There are beginner, intermediate, and expert levels, along with directions on how to use GIMP for script authoring and web editing.
