More Wedding Superstitions

We talked about some wedding superstitions earlier – here are a few more out there to put into your bag of knowledge. For example, did you know that when the bride comes and goes from a church, she should step across the threshold with her right foot to ensure good luck.

To prevent bad luck, the bride shouldn’t have anything to do with making her wedding dress or her wedding cake. It’s also bad luck to eat while the bride is getting dressed – but that makes sense – you don’t want to spill anything on your wedding dress!

Omens

Good Luck: If you believe in omens, any animals you see along the way to the ceremony are chock full of omens (most of them good). If a bird flies over your car, it’s good luck and means you will have a lot of children. If you see a wolf, a spider, a toad, a dove or a lamb – that’s great luck for your married life.

Bad Luck: Avoid having a pig cross your path though and if a bat flies out of the church, you might want to reschedule the wedding.

Crying is a Good Thing

Good Luck: Tears symbolically wash away the bride’s old problems and allow her a fresh start. Crying is considered such good luck that if a bride cannot cry, she should manufacturer the effect with onions or more.

Bad Luck: If you don’t cry, it’s very bad luck. This is a throwback to the days when people believed that witches can only shed three tears. If a bride cries, she is demonstrating she is not a witch and she is unlikely to be burned at the stake. It’s worth mentioning here that being burned at the stake is also considered bad luck.

Finally, when selecting your jewelry brides – beware the pearls – pearls are a symbol for tears and for every pearl a bride wears, her husband will giver her a reason to cry. What other superstitions do you know of that surround getting married?
