More Closet Tips

We clean out our closets and rearrange them from time to time, yet we still end up with overflowing rods, racks, and shelves and we can hardly find a thing! Is it really a matter of too little space, or is it actually about organization?

These tips will help make your closets more efficient:

Use space-saving storage bags

Space saving storage bags are great for keeping clothing free of dust and for keeping your garments free from moisture and pests such as moths. They are particularly good for freeing up space. You can store about three times as many items in the same amount of space by using this type of bag. Space-saving bags are an affordable, durable, closet organizing solution and they work especially well for seasonal items that you won’t need right away.

Keep frequently used items readily accessible

If there are some garments that you simply cannot part with yet you don’t use them very often, store them in the out of the way areas of the closet, such as toward the back or on the highest shelves. This way, the items that you use more often can be kept in prime space and will stay easily within reach. You won’t have to fight your way through things you don’t need in order to locate the items you want.

Keep clothing fresh

Instead of having to re-wash items that have spent a great deal of time in the closet, keep each item fresh and ready to wear. When using space-saving storage bags or other closed containers slip a fabric softener sheet (or two) inside before closing. Also, cover hanging garments to keep them free from dust and lint. Do not store clothing in plastic, as it will keep in moisture and may cause mildew. Use paper or an old sheet to cover hanging items. Add an air freshener to the closet, or spray clothing with a fabric refresher occasionally.
