Mother’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate the occasion than with a mother-daughter vacation. (For you moms with sons… I will spotlight mother-son vacations in a future blog.) Like all relationships the one between mother and daughter evolves over time. From the adoring younger years to the tricky teenage years to the moment when daughters become mothers themselves and suddenly the relationship takes on new meaning. Here are some vacation ideas tailored to each age group.
American Girl Place — Los Angeles, New York, Chicago
American Girl Place is a retail and entertainment site. Rooms are filled with dolls, doll clothes, accessories and more. American Girl Café serves brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, and at the American Girl Theater, you enjoy an original live musical. Girls can treat their dolls to a new ‘do at the Doll Hair Salon, and dolls in need of repair can visit the Doll Hospital. There are also cooking classes for moms and daughters.
Their Mother’s Day special event is called: “Memories with Mom.” It gives moms and daughters a chance to spend Mother’s Day together sampling finger sandwiches and decadent desserts during tea in the Cafe. Then it’s off to the Theater to enjoy The American Girls Revue. (As a Mother’s Day bonus you’ll have a chance to meet the cast afterwards.) Each girl will also receive a special gift to give her mother in celebration of the day.

The SPAhhhT & Windflower — Texas
The SPAhhhT is a youth spa, at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio. Separate from its adult Windflower Spa, The SPAhhhT features three treatment rooms, offering services such as facials (addressing the special needs of teen skin), clothed massages (with parent in room), henna tattoos, manicures and pedicures, hair wraps and braids, haircuts, and airbrushed nail enhancements.
One step inside and you realize this is not your typical spa. Beanbag chairs litter the three treatment rooms. Hip, bright colors adorn the many walls. Lava lamps, disco music, black lighting and beaded curtains complete the scene.
I think it’s a great get-away for moms and their teenage daughters. Moms can relax in the Windflower Spa while daughters are pampered at The SPAhhht.
