Mother’s Day: Gifts for Health and Well-being

Still looking for Mother’s Day gifts for that special mom in your life? Why not give the gift of health? I have noticed, as we get closer to Mother’s Day, many advertisements for health-related gifts for moms. For instance, as I was walking this morning there was an ad enticing listeners to give their mom (or special mom in their life) a gift membership to a health club. I’ve heard or seen ads for mammograms, exercise classes, spa treatments and health screenings.

I think these types of gifts are great ideas. They are thoughtful and send the message that we care about the health and well-being of the recipient. As mothers, we don’t always take the time to take care of ourselves. Sometimes we don’t want to spend money on ourselves. We see membership fees to a health club as splurging. Getting such a gift would be a great treat for some mothers.

Other treats include:

Teeth whitening

Pedicures and manicures

Subscriptions to weight loss clinics, both online and offline

A personal trainer

A cruise (without the kids!)

And while you are shopping, don’t forget to get a gift for yourself. You deserve it. This Mother’s Day I am treating myself to the gift of rest. I don’t plan to do anything on Sunday except watch some movies and chill out. On Saturday, I plan to go to the mall, get a haircut, and browse the shelves at Books A Million. That’s after I’ve had me a big old cup of java at Starbucks. I also read in the paper that the mall is taking pictures of your kids and giving them away as a free gift to moms.

Tyler and I will probably have dinner at a restaurant of my choosing (no McDonald’s !). Going out to eat on Saturday will eliminate the inevitable crowds that you’ll find at every restaurant in the city, most of which are having special Mother’s Day brunches or meals.

If you are still looking for gifts for the special moms in your life consider the gift of health and well-being. And please get something for yourself.
