Movies Week in Review – April 28th – May 3rd

Not sure what to rent this weekend? Been hearing mixed reviews and want to see what we thought? You’ve come to the right place – see what we’ve been watching this week.

We started the week with a review from Dale Harcombe, our Christian blogger. She saw “The Illusionist” and says it was a captivating film. Starring Edward Norton as the magician Eisenheim with Jessica Beil as his love interest, Dale highly recommends this film but says it’s not one for children. Sounds like something fun to watch after my kids are in bed . . .

We also took a closer look at “Untamed Heart,” with Marisa Tomei and Christian Slater. I liked the parts I liked and hated the parts I didn’t like . . . yeah, it was one of those films. You can read the whole review for the run-down on this film which combines romance, drama, and tragedy into a story that ultimately makes you feel that there is hope in this world.

A Knight’s Tale” is a fun adventure with Heath Ledger as a squire who just wants enough to eat, and ends up masquerading as a knight to fill his stomach. When he gets a taste for the life of a knight, he continues on with the charade, only to learn that it’s what’s in your heart that makes you nobility.

To Save the Children” is the true story of David Young, a deranged man who took an entire elementary school hostage in Cokeville, Wyoming. All the children in the school miraculously escaped, even with a highly lethal bomb detonating just feet from them. A gripping and powerful film.

Wedding Present” features a slightly spastic Cary Grant as a newspaper reporter who goes ballistic when he learns his former fiancé is about to marry someone else, and he goes through some pretty outrageous lengths to win her back.

We ended the week with “Wallace and Gromit: Three Amazing Adventures.” We see Wallace built a rocket to go to the moon – he’s out of cheese and needs more, you see. We also watch as Gromit is wrongly accused of being a sheepnapper. This British show is a hit here in the US as well.

We hope you enjoyed this recap, and that we were able to point you to a film you’ll enjoy.
