Multi-tasking

Multitasking has actually been in the news recently for several reasons. First, multitasking is causing far too many accidents. You’ve seen the drivers, and may even be one of them. Putting on make up, talking on the phone, getting dressed, all while driving. Multitasking while driving is dangerous, not only to yourself, but also to everyone around you. I also read a similar article to Diane about how multi tasking is being done way too much, causes undue stress, and wastes time.

However, multitasking doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. When done correctly, and in the right circumstances, it can really be a good thing. It can help the single parent save some time, as well as relieve some of the stress. You can get two things done at the same time as long as you are pairing up the right things.

Here are some examples of multitasking that single parents can do that will help save time and relieve stress. Make dinner or a snack and spend some time with your children. Get your children involved in making dinner. Even a two year old can tear lettuce leaves for a salad, or drop cookie dough on a cookie sheet before it gets thrown in the oven. Give your bathroom a quick cleaning while you’re getting ready for your day. Give the toilet bowel a couple of swishes with the brush, wipe down the counter, sink, and mirror, and you’re done. Clean a small portion of your tub/shower while you are in there taking a bath/shower. Do this right towards the end, and the steam has soaked in making everything just wipe right off. Doing a little every time will make sure you never have to spend an hour or two cleaning your shower again. Put in a load of laundry, and take your children to the park. Your laundry doesn’t need you to sit and wait for it to finish, and you can get some time in with your children at the same time. Get some time away, earn money, and have fun. Finding a job you love is a great way to do this. I do this by working with Usborne Books. Spend some quality time with your children while educating them. Even if you don’t homeschool your children you can supplement their education at home, or get them interested in things to explore on their own. Do some simple kitchen experiments, some marshmallow math, read some good literature, make a treasure map to go on an adventure with them.
