My Saturday Yard Sale Bargains

Yesterday was a good day for yard sale bargains for me. Our township was doing its annual yard sale day. Anyone in the town can register their yard sale, which was printed on a detailed map. That means that there were more than 30 different yard sales happening within just a few miles of our home.

Because of yard sale day, many people in the town saw it as an opportunity to really clean out their houses for the first time since last year. This means that there are plenty of rock bottom bargains and a lot of interesting finds.

Because we got a late start to the day, we only visited a few sales before everyone wrapped up. I did get some items on my list, though.

My daughter’s reading level has exploded lately. She is in first grade but reading at about a fourth grade level. We found a whole box of Magic Treehouse Books for only $1. I haven’t counted them all, but there must be about 20 in there.

At that same sale, we also picked up a large bag full of American Girl clothes. The price? $5.

My older son found some books that he likes, too, for a bargain.

It has been had to get clothes for her lately, too, since all she likes to wear is dresses, and modest ones are hard to come by new or used. At one yard sale, I was able to fill up a whole bag of clothes, include new items still in the package for $10. It came out to less than $.50 an item.

I also found three new framed prints for the kids’ bedrooms (still with the cardboard and price tags attached from the store) for $5.

With the kids out of the way, I grabbed some clothes for myself as well. Three pairs of name brand jeans, a pair of shorts, two pairs of work out pants and a jacket for a total of $9.

It was a good day. Does your community have a yard sale day?
