My Wedding My Rules

So when you were a little girl did you imagine planning your wedding? I never really did, I was not one of those girls who ran around with a pillowcase for a veil and dream of the day that my Knight in Shining armor came riding up on his horse to swoop me away to his castle. That was just a fairy tale and I wanted no part of it.

My father passed away from cancer eight years before I decided to get married. I would not have my Dad to walk me down the aisle and give me a way. I never really gave much thought to it before I started planning my own wedding. The fact was I moved 1800 miles away from my friends and family to marry this guy from Texas. Yes my mom and sister and best friend from Massachusetts would fly down for the wedding but they were not going to be here to help me pick out my dress, plan my wedding or any of the other things I was supposed to do.

In Texas all I had was my fiancee and the future in laws who really had not shown me the love so far. Who was going to help me plan my wedding? I would have been just as happy eloping in Vegas but he thought that his family would accept me easier if we had the church wedding. So now I had to plan a wedding in a state I just moved to with no close friends here except my fiancee.

Who is going to help me plan a wedding? Who was going to take me dress shopping? Heck I did not even know what kind of dress that I wanted. Who was going to tell me their opinions on how I looked in the dress? The only person that I had to go dress shopping with was my fiancee and I had no problem with that but the in laws did.

This was our wedding we were paying for it ourselves and yet I had to hear endless tales of why everything I did was wrong.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
