Need a Shed? Do it Yourself

I need a shed. I’ve been looking around and pricing them and they can be rather expensive. There are some good deals, but there are as many pricey options as there are good values. Some shed kits looked good, but I didn’t find one that was just right. The biggest problem I’m having is that I can’t find anything that suits my needs. Too small, oddly shaped, too many windows, etc. So, I started looking for plans to build a shed.

You can find plans to build a shed online and many of them are free. Others offer complete plans that include diagrams and materials needed, which you can download for around $5.00. There are also great books available if you’d rather purchase a book to have it handy, many for under $20.00. Check out Amazon.com for some good deals. Along with plans for sheds, you’ll even find books for building playhouses, doghouses, gazebos, garages, barns, workshops, and other outbuildings.

You’ll be able to put together the perfect shed, enjoy the do it yourself process, and bask in the sense of accomplishment. If a design has too many windows, you can simply replace them with a solid wall. It’s actually less work than putting in a window, just adjust the plans and the materials list accordingly. You can also decrease or expand the size of the shed by modifying the plans or list.

You can create a custom look to coordinate with your home, garage, and landscaping. There’s no reason a storage shed or garden shed has to be an “eyesore.” You can create an attractive structure to house tools, lawn equipment, bicycles, your grill, or anything else you’d like to store under a roof instead of out in the elements.

I’m hoping to make building a shed this summer’s do it yourself project, so I’ll update you if there is anything new on that front. For now, I’m going to get back to looking through all those great books, diagrams, and free shed plans.
