New Blogger Introduction

Greetings fellow food-lovers! I am Elizabeth Kane, the newest addition to the Food blogger team here at Families.com. I am a working mother of two, and am currently completing my Masters degree in Psychology. I have always loved to cook, and am thrilled to be writing for the Food blog. It’s so much fun to share recipes with others and to help people learn more about cooking and baking. Through my blogs I hope to give you some fun ideas to help make your own family meals more interesting.

If your family is like mine, we tend to get in a food rut and eat the same meals in a two-week rotation. I am constantly thinking of ways to mix it up a bit so no one gets bored. After a long day, it’s often tempting to grab something on the way home. But when we do that too often,we miss out on the opportunity to feed our family a wholesome meal.

My skills in the kitchen are diversified. Some of the cooking specialties I’ve acquired over the years include good old-fashioned country cooking, seafood, pastas, and even some sushi rolls. I am constantly trying new recipes and always looking for ways to get my kids in the kitchen cooking with me. I have an eleven-year-old son who wants to help with virtually everything I make. I love his enthusiasm about improving on his culinary skills. It’s a great bonding experience for us to cook together in the kitchen. Even my four-year-old daughter is starting to show an interest in cooking. She is starting with chocolate chip cookies, but I have a hunch she’ll progress to other culinary masterpieces!

I enjoy taking time out on the weekend to make meals for the week ahead. I find this to be a great time management tool if you have a few hours to spend on the weekend. Those few hours spent wind up saving me hours during the week.

Spending the time to prepare dinner for your family is such a nice way to get everyone together, sharing a meal, and discussing their day. I hope to offer you some tasty alternatives to your regular rotation and look forward to hearing yours as well.
