My 7-year-old is obsessed with those plastic New Year’s Eve party poppers. Pull a little string and you’re treated to an explosion of paper confetti and a computer-generated fortune–depending on where the favors were made. The ones my daughter has been playing with were clearly made in China… but I digress.
When it comes to making your New Year’s scrapbook layout pop, consider adding bits of wisdom and inspiration from your favorite celebrities. For example:
“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” –Oprah Winfrey
“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” –Bill Vaughan
“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.” –Hal Borland
“New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday.” –Charles Lamb
You can use the quotes as titles for your page designs or as points to expand on in journaling blocks. Otherwise, simply copy them onto the page and spice them up by replacing some letters with stickers, stamps or rub-ons.
Another way to jazz up a New Year’s layout is to go all out with a “Year in Review” theme. To pull it off, you’ll need to gather photos taken throughout the year, and then arrange them in a cohesive collage, which details the top activities, events and milestones that were accomplished by you and your family members during 2011.
The technique is a great way to use up extra pictures. What’s more, if you have photo-editing software, you could reduce the size of the prints to fit more on a single page. In addition, if you are the type, who shies away from big New Year’s celebrations, the “Year in Review” layout allows you to create a celebratory page design without having to don a silly hat and blow into a cheap, plastic horn.
