Not Carrot & Celery Sticks Again!

“I’m so sick of carrots and celery sticks! Give me something else I can snack on!”

If you’re snacking on carrots and celery sticks, you are probably doing so because you want a very low calorie, high fiber snack. Bearing that in mind, here are a few suggestions:

Try mixing things up with fresh broccoli, cauliflower and grape tomatoes. These are all high in fiber, satisfy the need to chew and have distinct flavors.

Try snacking on nuts or seeds. These contain healthy oils, lots of fiber and protein to satisfy and/or stave off hunger. Just remember to be mindful of your serving sizes of these.

Try snacking on a grapefruit. The positive weight loss qualities of the grapefruit have been well known for years now. Peel it like an orange and pack it in a Ziploc bag for a quick, tasty snack on the go.

Try Romaine lettuce wraps. These are a favorite of mine. Take one leaf of Romaine and lay it flat, spine down. Then place two slices of thin, deli-style ham on it like you would a hoagie roll. Cut a slice of lowfat cheese in half and lay it lengthwise on the ham. Then fill with sliced onion, bell pepper, tomato and dill pickle. Roll it up and eat it up! This makes for a great low calorie “sandwich” that has a good bit of vitamins, minerals and protein in it to stave off hunger. It also tastes great and helps you to forget that you’re actually dieting!

There are plenty of snacking options for dieters to explore without blowing their diets. You don’t need to feel deprived when you are watching your weight. The key to snacking safely is to watch portion sizes and use a little creativity. You may just find that you enjoy diet food!
