Old Frames Are Perfect for Children’s Artwork!

kids artwork Here is a very low-cost solution to displaying your kids’ artwork that will also give your home some major decorating impact.

First Gather Your Frames

Most of us have a number of extra frames that we don’t know what to do with. They may have glass missing, look ugly or have paint peeling from them. Gather them into one place. If you happen to be so clutter free or organized that you don’t have any extra frames, visit your local thrift shop where you can purchase a variety of frames for very little money. Discard any unwanted photos.

Prepare Your Frames

If the artwork will be displayed in a young child’s room or a playroom, I would suggest removing the glass, if there is any. Take the frames apart and place them outside on some thick newspaper. Next spray paint them all the same color for uniformity and to make the frames attractive. A bright white usually looks nice with colorful artwork.

Spray several thin coats of paint, and make sure that you get a decent quality paint, so you have good results. Saving the price difference between the cheap paint and the nicer paint just isn’t worth it for this project.

If you are adventurous with color, you might want to check out the paint returns at your local home improvement store. These are cans of paint that no one wanted–usually in bright colors–that can be had cheaply. You can use a roller or paint brush to apply this paint.

Select Your Artwork

Now it is time to select your pieces. Consult with your children as you go through the best artwork. Pieces that will fill the frames and are colorful generally work best. Don’t forget to get permission from your kids to cut down the artwork, as needed. You will need to do this to fit the frames that you have.

Display it proudly as single pieces or in groups. The frames will make a big difference!
