You don’t have to be on the receiving end of a Nate Berkus home makeover to whip your scrapbook room into shape. In fact, you don’t have to have a scrapbook room at all in order to use the following organizational strategies. If you have a scrapbooking corner in your basement or a craft table tucked into your bedroom closet, the following tips can help you keep your supplies neat and tidy:
Take Inventory: You can have the most lavish scrapbook supplies in the world, but if they are hidden under a bunch of junk, your work space will be insufficient. Take time to remove clutter from your scrapbook work area. Once you have things sorted, take inventory of your materials and determine how much storage you will need to keep everything in its place.
Storage: I don’t have a ton of space to scrapbook, so my storage options are limited. I stick with photo storage boxes (lots and lots of boxes) and a bunch of Sterilite containers that are great for storing stickers, stamps, scraps and tools. I have seen some fellow scrapbooking moms use plastic bins and pegboards to keep their supplies out of reach from little hands. If I had more room I would add a few baskets and bins to my collection, as they make it easy to see what materials you have at a glance.
Carts: Carts are great for storing scrapbook paper. Since I scrapbook exclusively with 12×12 paper, I had a hard time finding containers to keep my collection, so I decided to get a cart instead. The Container Store and Cropper Hopper have carts made specifically for scrappers and crafters. However, if you can’t afford to purchase specialty items, I would suggest purchasing a standard rolling cart from Office Depot or Target and spicing it up with paint, fabric or stickers.
