If you are an avid scrapper, then you’ve likely accumulated a nice stash of paper, embellishments and albums over time. This is especially true if you find seasonal sales hard to resist. I have a magnetic attraction to sales bins and tend to purchase items that I may not need right away, but feel I will use down the road. Only I haven’t gotten to that part of the road yet and I am now being smothered by excessive scrapbook materials.
If you have a storage problem, then now is the time to look for solutions. Summer is primetime to purge. After all, the busy holiday season is right around the corner and it’s no fun having to dig through mountains of material because you don’t have things organized.
Get started by tackling the items that you have the most of. For example, I have accumulated a ton of patterned paper over the years. The first thing I need to do is gather all my paper in one spot and decide how I want to file my collection. Generally, I sort paper and cardstock by color, but my friend also has a neat system in that she divides her textured cardstock from the non-textured options. When organizing patterned paper consider sorting by the dominant color in the pattern or divide the paper by the type of pattern, such as polka dots, floral or stripes.
Another idea is to sort paper by theme. For example, you can make piles to be used specifically for a wedding scrapbook, baby or travel. If you are brand loyal, then you could opt to sort paper by manufacturer. This works well if you design layouts using products from the same company.
Regardless of how you sort your stash it’s a good idea to jot down an inventory as you go. By having a list of all your current materials you can avoid spending money on items you already have. It also allows you to see what you really need, so you can stock up the next time a sale takes place.
