Our Ninth Prenatal Visit

It has only been two weeks since my last prenatal visit. The end is in sight! Weekly visits will follow until our daughter is born!

As we approach the holidays, I seem to get busier and busier. So to ensure that I could get my workout in, I awoke early, ate a Greek yogurt and did my prenatal pilates before our visit with the midwife.

Both my husband and son accompanied me to this visit (we had no impending package deliveries). We entered the cozy carriage house, our son took the opportunity to run around in the open space, while I collected my urine sample which was right on the mark once again! We headed up stairs and talked about the birth supply list first. My midwife made some clarifications and suggestions. She took my blood pressure next and it was well within the normal healthy range. Then I made my way to the scale to check my weight. I had a two and a half pound weight gain in two weeks which is a little more than we would like to see, but certainly not too bad (it must have been the ice cream that I ate three times last week). Next came the series of questions about diet, exercise, headaches, dizziness, constipation, etc: good on exercise and diet (which includes my supplements), no headaches or dizziness, or constipation. She checked my shins for swelling and found them to be in a perfect non-swollen state. Then we talked about the group B strep test and she gave me some literature so that I could make an informed decision to accept or decline the test. We also talked about some other preparations for the birth including: energy drinks and chicken soup. Next my midwife felt for the position of the baby, which seems to be head down still! She measured my fundal height; it was exactly thirty six centimeters! Then came my husband’s favorite part, listening to the baby’s heartbeat. It was good and strong at one hundred and fifty plus beats per minutes! Our visit closed with the scheduling of our next visit which will include an ultrasound to check the baby’s position and the fluid levels and would by followed by our home visit (so that our midwife can get a sense of where we live and the layout of our house etc.).

All in all, our ninth prenatal visit was a good one! We headed home to make our daily omelet (I still need three eggs a day)!
