Our Tenth Prenatal Visit

It has been one short week since our last prenatal visit with our midwife. This visit was a little different than our previous visits because it began with a thirty six ultrasound. Our midwife likes to have a quick ultrasound done at around thirty six weeks to check the baby’s position and the amniotic fluid level. Thus, our tenth and first weekly visit began at the ultrasound clinic. Our midwife met us at the clinic. All four of us headed into the exam room (although it seemed more like a nice sitting room). The technician began the ultrasound and immediately found our daughter with not only her head down but with her head nice and low (ready for birth in a few weeks!). The ultrasound revealed that the amniotic fluid was in good supply and it also confirmed that we are indeed having a daughter! Everything looked good!

After the ultrasound we had our home visit with the midwife. She likes to have a home visit around thirty six weeks to get a feel for the space. We had our normal prenatal visit first. She took my blood pressure and went through her series of questions including diet, exercise, and supplements. The scale showed a one and half pound weight gain, not what I was hoping for but certainly not an excessive gain. The last thing to do before the tour, was to check fundal height which was right on the mark at thirty seven centimeters!

The tour of our home was short with all thirteen hundred square feet! Our son was very excited to show our midwife his and his sister’s room. Then we showed her our room, the room where we had planned to have the water birth. Although the midwife brought up the potential issue with the stairs if there were an emergency. We went back downstairs and talked about using the dining room instead (which was my original plan). There would be more space for her supplies and we would have access to the kitchen. We felt good about our conversation and the changes to our initial plan and so did our midwife!
