Paper is what most scrapbookers have the most of in their stash. There are two different types that need to be stored and organized – patterned paper and cardstock. In between those are the specialty papers like mulberry, velvet, vellum and others. So how does one go about organizing and storing their paper?
There are two methods of storage; vertical and horizontal. There isn’t one way that works better than the next, it is a personal choice and a space issue. If you have nowhere to store your paper, than you are a bit flexible in how you achieve the final result, but it is a guessing game. Without seeing how someone else does it, it is frustrating. So here are some ideas from some of the students in my scrapbook classes. Some are beginners, some are advanced, but all have paper and give great ideas.
Tips:
There are several stores (Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Linens and Things – among others) that have wire modular storage cubes that work great for paper storage either vertical or horizontal. They are inexpensive, cost much less than their scrapbook store counterparts and are easy to make. They look quite a bit like the type you sometimes see in scrapbook stores. (See photographs)
Visit the office supply store or your local discount chain that has office supplies available and you can find stacking storage trays and other filing methods that might work.
A bookshelf works great. There is an Ikea model, if you have a little extra cash to spend (and an IKEA close by) that retails for about $200. It is huge and takes up a huge part of the wall, but all of your paper and idea books should fit. It is called the Expedit bookshelf and can be found here. It is available in three colors, which makes coordinating with your room easier. I made my own version of this bookshelf and promise to show it off once its full.
