Have you ever hosted a scrapbooking party? Not a traditional crop or a pseudo-party where your main concern is selling supplies in order to make a profit. I’m talking about a real party with friends, food, music, and a whole lot of space where your fellow scrappers can spread out and create eye-popping layouts while obtaining tips and inspiration from others.
Sounds fun, right?
It is, if you plan properly.
One of the most important factors to consider before sending out the invitations is how much space you have to host a scrapbook party. Scrappers are notorious for requiring plenty of elbow room to spread out their supplies, tools and albums. I would suggest giving each scrapbooker at least four feet of work space for the duration of the party. You may be able to squeeze three or four people on a dining room table that sits eight people, but if your party guests exceed that number then you will need to consider hosting the scrapbooking shindig in the basement where you can set-up additional tables. If your home features an open floor plan you could set up folding tables in the living room, dining room and family room area. Otherwise, you might have to settle for an intimate gathering of just three or four friends if you don’t have enough space in your home to accommodate a large number of scrapping pals.
Once you work out the space issues and determine the number of people you are planning to invite, select a party theme. During a standard crop each person works on her own scrapbook. However, if you want to spice up your party, consider organizing a themed soiree where all of your guests craft different takes on the same holiday or event, such as Valentine’s Day, Halloween, the first day of school, birthday or Christmas. If you plan well in advance you may even be able to book a demonstrator from Creative Memories or Stampin Up! to attend the party and teach a new scrapbooking technique.
Finally, don’t forget to provide necessary scrapbooking supplies, such as scissors, paper trimmers, and die cut machines. Most guests will likely being their own adhesive, card stock and albums, though if you are planning a theme party, it would be nice to hand out some related paper and embellishments to each of your guests.
