There are a million different ways that you can organize your scrapbooking papers. There are also several different storage solutions for you to use. But, I want to talk about specifically, how do you organize your patterned scrapbook paper? This is the hardest part for me. Obviously, my solid colored papers are organized by color, but I am constantly changing how I organize my patterned paper. I can share with you how I have it organized right now.
My paper rack was purchased at a yard sale. It has 30 shelves to fit 12 x 12 papers. On the left, I organize my solid 12 x 12 papers by color. On the right I organize all of the patterned paper. In the first two slots, I keep my most recently purchased papers. This is usually because those are the papers that I am itching to use! The next shelf down, I have boy papers. I do not have many boy papers because, up until 2 years ago, all I had was a girl! So, my layouts were super girly and so were my papers. So, for now, what few boy papers I do have, I want to keep separate so I can grab them easily.
The rest of my papers are organized by the following topics:
*Polka Dots
*Stripes
*Plaid
*Floral
*Symmetrical (this includes papers with symmetrical shapes on them)
*Funky
*Holidays
*Word papers
*Black and White
*Other themes
I also frequently buy paper packs. I do not separate these until there are just a few sheets left. So, I keep my paper packs sitting on top of the paper rack for easy access.
Right now, this system is working for me, but I do find that I just look through my new papers that I have at the top, and forget about some of the really cute old papers in the bottom part of my paper rack. At different times in our scrapbooking lives, we may organize in different ways, but right now, this is what works for me. What works for you?
