The simplest way to make special postcards is to use all occasion greeting cards (or holiday or birthday cards at the appropriate times of year). You can use old cards that you already have or you can pick up an inexpensive boxed set or a few individual cards. You can often find greeting cards 2-3 for just $1.00 at discount centers and dollar stores. Simply cut off the front cover and write an address and message on the back of it. It helps to draw a line down the center to keep the message and address separate. Add a stamp, and send it off!
You can also use large index cards to make homemade postcards. Your children can draw, color, glue on photos or clip art to make a collage design, or cut pictures and words from magazines to glue on the front. Print a message and the address and it’s ready to go.
Try cutting down some cardstock to make note cards. You can choose solid or prints, print your own designs with your computer, or make your own decorations. If you choose cardstock that is the same size as a regular sheet of paper, just cut it in half lengthwise. Fold each side in half so the card opens up and down instead of side-to-side. You can generally find stationery and envelopes that closely match the currently featured cardstock colors. Pick up a package of coordinating envelopes to go with the note cards.
To make personalized note cards, print your child’s name or a message such as “A note from Ashley” on the cardstock before cutting and folding.
