In my previous blogs, I have been discussing reasons why I enjoy teaching in the public education system. Today brings my A to Z perks of public education to the letter F. F is for the friendships that I have made. Through teaching, I have gained many new friends.
I have made friendships at the school where I teach and with teachers at other schools. Throughout the year, teachers from different schools in my district have opportunities to meet with one another and discuss what is happening at their school. We trade ideas and help each other with struggles. We plan for the year and discuss changes that we would like our county to make. We create assessments to use and guidelines for our grade level.
However, the friendships go beyond the people in my area. Teachers seem to almost have a club. No matter where they are from or who they are, when teachers meet they immediately form a bond.
Teachers understand one another and can have much in common upon meeting. We can automatically begin discussions and know exactly what each other is talking about and feeling. We are very curious to ask one another questions about how things are carried out in schools in different locations and areas of the country.
I have attended statewide workshops and conventions. I have been in meetings with hundreds of other kindergarten teachers. We all share common classroom stories and enjoy the same school humor. We can discuss the same concerns and frustrations. We share the same love for the children. We are light hearted and cordial to one another. The meetings are very open and friendly.
Through teaching, I have made many close friendships that I would otherwise not have. I feel that I have a created a bond that only teachers can understand.
