Personalized Scrapbooking

Personalized scrapbooks seem redundant. After all, it’s not like you are going to create layouts with photos of random people. Rather, our albums are filled with personal memories and embellishments that can be customized to further illustrate our individual preferences.

In fact, even pre-made albums and scrapbook-in-a-box type kits can be adjusted to display individual creativity. While the kits come with pre-selected supplies, that doesn’t mean you can’t take liberties to make the finished page designs uniquely yours. What’s more, you can take the concept of pre-fabricated scrapbooks to another level by creating your own skeleton album and giving it as a gift to a friend to fill.

If you are eager to share your passion with family and friends, consider the following tips that are sure to help you craft a simple pre-designed album:

*Include frames for both horizontal and vertical photos.

*If you are giving the memory album to a beginner scrapbooker, it’s best to include frames that fit standard size prints. Individuals who are just starting out with the hobby may not want to experiment with cropping or enlarging photos.

*Add lines to journaling blocks. Again, if you are not giving the album to an avid scrapper, then a block with lines will make it easier for the person to add in anecdotes or other stories about a specific event.

*Give the gift of acid-free adhesive with the pre-designed scrapbook, as well as some tips on how to use it properly.

*Select an album with a keyhole insert, so the gift recipient can personalize it with ease.

In regards to album covers, I wouldn’t go overboard. If you are giving the book as a gift to someone who doesn’t scrapbook much, then having an elaborate cover and simple interior is a bit of a contradiction. Keep the cover basic by adding rub-on letters to spell out the person’s name and date or make a plain fabric slipcover which can be removed and replaced whenever the owner sees fit. Finally, you can’t go wrong with a simple yet pretty ribbon embellishment for a spiral-bound memory book.
