Pining for Photoshop

left

If you are an avid digital scrapbooker, but your photos leave more to be desired than your layouts, then you might consider investing in high-quality computer software.

I’ve been pining for Photoshop for years. The photo-editing software fits into the “premiere” category and is often used by professional graphic designers. However, it can also be a scrapbooker’s best friend. The software allows you to edit images in a variety of ways including cropping, modifying brightness and contrast, as well as adding a slew of special effects. The downside to all this fabulosity is the high price. Photoshop doesn’t come cheap; however, you could settle for an alternative version that is a bit more affordable. Photoshop Elements includes many of the same features as Photoshop, though you don’t get all of the professional-grade bells and whistles.

Before you dig deep to purchase digital scrapbooking software it’s a good idea to evaluate the types of features you can’t live without. For example, if you are not a very good photographer, then you will likely benefit from investing in a software program that includes multiple editing features. On the other hand, if you are a decent photographer, but you enjoy adding special effects to your photos, such as converting to sepia or black-and-white, then stick with modestly-priced programs that focus primarily on image enhancement options.

Finally, while most digital scrapbooking software programs include templates, graphics, and fonts, you don’t have to limit yourself by using just the included features. There are a slew of different scrapbooking websites that offer free fonts and graphics that you can use on your digital layouts. Also, keep in mind that not all software is created equal. Some programs come with lengthy directions and tutorials. If you don’t have the time or energy to learn an advanced program, you might opt for a simpler version that allows you to create pages from the get-go.
