Places I’ve Spotted the Funniest Halloween Couple Costumes

Cat in the Hat Wayne and Saloon Girl Courtie

Earlier this month Karri posted some really great suggestions for couple costumes. (I loved the Baker and Bun in the Oven one…I thought that was so cute!)

It caught my attention because every year I scour through catalogs and Internet sites looking for couple costume ideas. Wayne and I always dress up, but we’ve never dressed up to compliment one another. He’s always his own unique thing separate from whatever I choose. (Mainly because Wayne’s a prankster and gravitates towards comical costumes, whereas I go the adventurous route –pirates, saloon girls, Viking women.)

But I keep searching, hoping I’ll find something we can agree on. I’ve listed this years funniest contenders below according to where I’ve spotted them.

The Lighter Side

Tacky Vegas Tourists: This isn’t exactly a couples costume, but in the catalog they showed a couple wearing it. They accessorized it by putting sunscreen on the man’s nose and giving the woman an obnoxious oversized purse and huge sunglasses to compliment her outfit. Different. Has possibilities.

Halloween Mart

Bounty Hunter Dog and Beth: I’m not a fan of Dog’s show, and neither is Wayne necessarily, but we both admit him and his significant other make great characters. Might even be funnier for people as straight-laced as Wayne and I to show up in costumes like this.

Shrek and Princess Fiona: Shrek was a fantastic movie and apparently the costumes based on its characters aren’t just for kids anymore. Awesome! (And even cuter are the costumes for the kids, like Dronkey and Puss ‘N Boots, making it possible for dressing up to be a family affair. They even have Shrek pet costumes so truly the whole family could be in sync.)

Chang and Chico (or maybe Chica, as may be more apropos): Wayne and I came of age during the Cheech and Chong movies, so we can dig this theme, man.

Bowling Pin and Bowling Ball: If we were big bowlers this would be a perfect costume. Another variation that would be comical would be a character who was nuts about bowling, like Fred Flintstone, taking along his bowling ball.

SNL Male and Female Spartan Cheerleaders: Just add a boombox, rehearse a few cheers (in case anyone puts you on the spot to perform), and voila! You’re the party’s entertainment!
