Planning aTea Party, Part 1

Tea parties are a great idea for a graduation party. Graduation is a wonderful time to plan a special party to pay tribute to achievements and say goodbye to teenage antics. If you are seeking an elegant way to mark this transition in life consider a tea party. You can also plan a tea party for a special homeschool co-op event, birthday party, or any event you want to add a touch of elegance to.

Tea parties are all about class. Adorning tables with fine china and silverware brings out the giddy socialite in all of us. Every woman enjoys feeling a little elegant from time to time. A young lady needs refinement upon entering the world so a tea party to mark her graduation is fitting. And the rest of us just want to wear hats, gloves, and drink tea with our pinkies held high. However, do not be intimidated, planning a tea is surprisingly easy and need not be stuffy.

Guest List and Invitations

The first step in planning any party is creating the guest list. Budget and venue will be determined by the number of guests.

You have plenty of creative options for invitations. You can make a scroll invitation easily with paper, a printer and ribbon. The scroll is not only sophisticated but also represents the diploma. Consider an invitation in the shape of the teacup with a place to insert a tea bag which attaches to a paper label with all the pertinent information.

Food

Food at a tea party is buffet style. Food is prepared and put out in advance. Self serve food will allow you to host and enjoy the party at the same time. That is what makes a tea party a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Full afternoon tea menu:

*Tea sandwiches: Choose a variety of tea sandwich recipes to appeal to your guests. You will be surprised to learn that cucumber sandwiches are not the only choice. Tea sandwiches can be savory or sweet but are always full of flavor.

*Scones: You can’t have a tea without scones. Scone recipes range from buttermilk to chocolate chip and everything in between. Serve with jam, butter or Devonshire cream.

*Tea cakes: Quite simply any pastry or devilishly good treat fits into this category. Bite size brownies, mini cheesecakes, fruit tarts, and cream puffs are what make this portion of the meal a favorite among women everywhere.
