Right now, we are just trying to get to know our candidates better. Sherry and I have been talking about what motivates people to vote the way they do. No doubt this is a historic election on a number of fronts. With that said, I hope that voters will really take the time to research candidates’ proposals on how to fix the economy, on education and other issues that face our nation at this time. These next four years will be a cross roads for our nation.
Labor–Obama has worked on the Exercise Freedom of Choice Act which will give workers the right to unionize without fear of harassment of their employers. If he becomes president, he will be looking to sign this into law.
National Labor Relations Board–Obama has fought against this committee and especially their “Kentucky River” decisions because it strips hundreds of “professionals” the right to unionize, organize and strike.
Protect Striking Workers–Obama feels that workers should have the right to strike without fear of losing their jobs. He has fought to make the replacement of striking workers non-permanent so that when the strike is over, they can go back to their own jobs.
Raise the Minimum Wage–Obama is in favor of raising the minimum wage and increasing the Earned Income Credit so that working families are able to pay for their basic needs.
Universal Mortgage Credit–Obama will create a universal mortgage credit for homeowners that do not itemize deductions. This credit will prove approximately $500 to some 10 million home owners.
The STOP FRAUD Act–T’his act was created by Obama over a year ago and among other things provides the first federal definition of mortgage fraud. It creates harsher penalties for those who engage in mortgage fraud and sets up a means of protection for the consumer against mortgage fraud.
Come back soon for more details on Obama’s various running platforms.
