With a slight lull as the country readjusts to considering who will be the best Democratic nominee to thinking about who will be the next President, the politics blog was a little quieter this week. Apparently McCain has been gearing up for the Democratic nominee and has been ready with a defense as to why he should be chosen to be the next Republican president. With that said, here is a quick run down of what we covered in the politics blog this week:
Thursday, June 12
The Vice of E-Mail in This Campaign–I took a look at how candidates are turning to the internet more and more to get their message out. Perhaps more importantly, we looked at how those nasty rumor filled e-mails have affected this election. Everything from the e-mail claiming that it’s the fault of the Congress that the United States is seeing a struggling economy, to the e-mails circulating claiming Obama’s radical extremist Muslim affiliations have been in wide circulation. Hopefully, my readers know better than to believe everything they read.

Those Other Candidates–takes a brief look at two other candidates who at the time the blog was published were still in the Presidential race. The first candidate was Ron Paul who pointedly decided to hold his own personal convention on the Tuesday night of the Republican convention. As of now, it is said that he is officially withdrawing from the race. We also took a brief look at Barr, the presidential candidate running on the Libertarian ticket.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert–have an amazing amount of power considering they’re the two guys from Comedy Central who joke around about politics. Yet all signs indicate that perhaps our country is listening to them for some honesty in journalism. After all, Colbert’s popularity almost landed him a run for the White House.

McCain’s Problem With Evangelicals–notes that while Evangelicals are an important block of the Republican vote, McCain has yet to sell them. He’s not quite conservative enough in his pro-life stance. Can his constructionist views win over this crucial voting block within the Republican party?
