Popular Paint Choices

Recently I wrote several blogs about getting your home in shape for the New Year. I also revealed that one of my New Year’s resolutions is to experiment with different wall colors. (Hence this blog about paint.) If you are looking to spruce up your home this year you may want to consider a paint job. After all, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to give a room a new look is with paint.

According to the research I have done, there are several color themes for 2007 that are outshining the competition. I tend to be a rather conservative decorator so for me to incorporate a “trendy” color scheme into my home is a daring move, but I’m trying to be bold for 2007 so that’s why I am considering the following options experts say will be HOT this year.

They are:

The West

This color palette is made up of dark, rich and warm colors including Cocoa Brown, Mesa Red, Flatland, Allday Long, Bold Edwardian, Loden Wool, Butterscotch Candy and Fountain Blue. I am not opposed to the butterscotch and browns, but the blue may be a bit much if it is used as more than just an accent.

Feminine Touches

We’re talking soft, pretty shades that accentuate lace and other feminine touches. The colors include Confident Rose, Primative Hedges, Antique White, Nectar, Morrow Bay, Pixley Falls, Twine and Flamingo Pink. (Good luck getting your husband to go along with this scheme.)

Nautical

If you have a beach house this palette of retro ’70s-, nautically inspired colors may be just what you are looking for. Colors include Winding Road, Brilliant Impression, Nature’s Way, Orange Concentrate, Chanson Bleu, Convivial Red, Herbaceous and Porcelain Sink C7-4. I could see this color scheme also working in a den or breakfast nook.

Preppy

My nickname in high school was “Preppy Cheppy” so that may be why this palette is in my comfort zone. It is characterized by fun, bright and happy colors, and plays off of fabrics such as herringbone, stripes, seersucker and plaids. Colors include Tulip Petals, Ultra White, Putting Green, Rice Wine, Darlington, Sewing Bee and Rockets.
