Prepping for a Memorable New Year’s Bash

left

Who says you need to get sloshed on the 31st in order to ring in the New Year?

If you are planning a kid-friendly New Year’s Eve bash, you likely won’t be serving bubbly at all. However, that doesn’t mean you have to do without the toasts. Consider serving sparkling apple cider or Ginger Ale dressed up as a Mr. or Mrs. Bubbly. Simply cover a flesh-toned bodysuit with silver and white balloons or tape them to a black or ivory turtleneck and leggings. The costume is a fun way to liven up a New Year’s Eve shindig, and the kids will love taking swings at your costume.

Of course, you don’t have to get decked out in an extreme costume in order to make an impact at your New Year’s Eve bash. Most people simply don traditional party clothes and embellish the outfits with some bling. Fortunately, glittery New Year’s Eve accessories are readily available at party and costume shops during the last week in December. Now is the time to snag super savings on sequined “Happy New Year” hats, white fur-trimmed tiaras, bedazzled boas and gem-encrusted glasses featuring the numbers that represent the New Year.

Regardless of what you and your guests wear to usher in 2012, make sure everyone is entertained as they wait for the clock to strike 12. Pull out popular board games, sing karaoke, or play interactive games, such as “Murder Mystery.” For this classic whodunit, gather your guests into a circle and select one person to be the detective. That person leaves the room while the others decide who will be the killer. The criminal remains in the room with the rest of the guests. Next, the detective is called back into the room and instructed to solve the crime. When the detective isn’t looking, the murderer winks at other players in the room. If the player sees that he has been winked at by the killer, he must scream and drop dead on the spot. The detective is given three chances to solve the murder by identifying the killer before the last three people die. If he fails to do so, a new murder mystery begins.
