Printing and Framing your Family Tree

A lot of work goes into a finished family tree. There is a lot of time and research that goes into any family tree. Some people spend years completing a family tree. Many people spend months on their project.

With a project of this magnitude, it is understandable that many families would want to print and frame their family tree. A beautifully printed family tree that is matted and framed is a great family heirloom. It can be displayed proudly by grandparents in their home and passed down to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

There are many ways to print and frame a family tree. The print can be a standard size that can be printed on a home printer or it could be printed in a large format by a print shop. If you use a standard size print, you will have the option of framing it yourself. If you use a large format print, you will likely need to have it professionally matted and framed. You will be hard pressed to find the proper size mat and frame for a large format print.

If you choose a standard size print, which is advisable if you are trying to save money, you can probably purchase a mat and frame at a local art supply store.

If you do plan to use the framed print as a family heirloom to pass down to the next generations, you’ll want to be sure it is archival quality. This means using archival ink, acid-free paper and archival glass. These can also be purchased at a local art supply store or at a custom framing shop.

The finished product makes a beautiful wall piece and showcases not only all of your hard work but also the story of your family heritage.
