Product Review: The Scrap Rack

Scrapbooking - The Scrap Rack
After carefully researching The Scrap Rack, it seems to have its pro’s and con’s in the scrapbooking world. I found that either scrapbooker’s loved it or hated it, and mostly they were for the same reasons.

So before purchasing one for myself, I found someone who had one. I had a chance to use it and organize it. There are definitely some good points about the scrap rack, as well as some not so good points. Here is what I found.

PRO’S

  • Easy to assemble
  • Expandable
  • Collapses easily for storage
  • Keeps supplies at your fingertips

CON’S

  • Very bulky, takes up a lot of space
  • Expensive (Retail is from $80-$285)
  • Need to purchase more parts to keep growing

The whole process to set The Scrap Rack up is not that difficult, but when finished you have a heavy, bulky item that really has to stay where you place it.

I liked the organizational value of the product. Having everything at your fingertips is so much easier than getting out separate boxes and containers for each supply. And having everything organized by color or theme was also very useful.

The Scrap Rack begins with a simple base with rings. These are the building blocks of the entire foundation. The Rack is a metal base which sits on your desk at a comfortable tilt. The tilted design allows you to view all your supplies quickly and easily.

The problem I heard most often was it’s size. When fully open the rack is approximately 3 feet long and 13 inches deep. Once set up, the base is ready to accommodate up to 7 or 8 Spinders, between 300 and 400 storage pages and thousands of supplies. I see how this could be a pro or a con for each individual scrapbooker’s needs.

The Spinders go inside the rack. Each Spinder has an industrial strength 3 ring mechanism which fits all standard 3 hole punched products. The Spinders have “close tight rings” and also feature double locking tabs. The Spinders adhere to the base unit with commercial grade Velcro. Each base unit can accommodate up to 8 Spinders.

Spinders can be purchased individually and are used with both the ScrapRack and the TravelPack. The pages for the Scrap Rack are special and unique to this product, but the spinders will allow you to include any standard 3-hole punched page or item that you currently use – Creative Memories, Crop in Style, Baseball card holders, etc. Each spinder can hold between 20-40 pages.

I’m still going to purchase one; I just have to find a place to store a three foot item. I love how organized it feels to use one of these!
