Profit From Your Passion

I have always been a frugal scrapper. This is a result of sheer necessity because if I weren’t, I wouldn’t be a scrapper at all.

Scrapbooking can add up very quickly. Between albums, paper, tools, and embellishments, a single memory book can easily exceed a couple hundred dollars depending on its size and the types of materials used.

If you are not independently wealthy and you like to use top of the line scrapbook materials, then you might be forced to scale down on your wish list, or pick up a few extra jobs to help support your hobby. Or…

Or, you could consider making a profit from your passion.

I live in the Midwest, home to Creative Memories, a scrapbooking supply company founded in 1987 by Rhonda Anderson and Cheryl Lightle. The company uses consultants to host in-home parties to sell its products. Basically, Creative Memories takes its cue from companies like Avon and Mary Kay, only with scrapbooking supplies instead of cosmetics. Like its business model mentors, Creative Memories has exploded into a massive operation and its products are beloved around the world. Currently, the company is present in seven countries and employs more than 40,000 consultants.

The best part is that you too could be a consultant and use the income you generate to help offset your scrapbooking hobby. In order to become a Creative Memories consultant you must over 18 and be willing to work under a current Creative Memories consultant. Once you get a bit of experience under your belt, you can branch out on your own and host parties for your own customers.

To get started you are required to purchase a consultant kit for about $50. The kit includes materials required to be a consultant, such as a guide book, photo solutions party planner, catalog and price book, and order forms. You might also consider purchasing a completion kit which comes with a CD and other instructional materials, such as a manual that outlines how each of the products in the Creative Memories line should be operated and an idea book that spotlights sample layouts that detail instructions on how to teach new techniques to potential clients.
