No big names being arrested this week like recent arrestees Raffaelo Follieri (Anne Hathaway’s ex) or rapper DMX, but pseudo-celebrity names are making headlines for offenses. If you watched the movie “The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” you may remember actor Shelley Malil. He played one of Steve Carell’s co-workers, but has also appeared in numerous television shows including “NYPD Blue” and “Reba.” The 43 year old was arrested for attacking a former girlfriend in Oceanside, California Monday night as he got off a train.
Actually, it turns out to be more brutal than it sounds. The unidentified woman was found in her home near San Marcos on Sunday night. Neighbors called the deputies after hearing screaming and broken glass. After answering the call, deputies found the woman had multiple stab wounds, but no suspect was at the scene. She was taken to the local hospital, where she was in critical condition. Reports are that she and Malil were in a relationship that just ended.
Malil’s attorney, family and friends encouraged him to turn himself in. He was taking the train to Los Angeles to meet with his attorney. Malil is currently in the county detention center under investigation of attempted murder, mayhem, and burglary.
Not really a celebrity, but the father of a celebrity whose name is making the headlines for assault is Alan Panettiere, father of 18 year old “Heroes” star Haydan Panettiere. He was arrested Monday for supposed spousal assault, although authorities could not release the name of the woman he reportedly hit three times with an open hand. Panettiere, 49, has no prior arrest record and was released after posting $50,000 bail.
Hayden Panettiere’s publicist called the arrest a “private affair” and said she had no comment. Her show, “Heroes,” is set to return for season three on September 22. Hayden plays a cheerleader with the superhuman powers to heal injuries.
