Put Summer Travel Mementos to Good Use

I don’t own a GPS device, but it’s not because I am part Bloodhound. Rather, I still use good old fashioned maps… because I am retro like that.

Laugh as you might, but if you are an avid scrapper, then you know that maps are more than just tangible tools that help you to get from point A to point B without getting too lost. Whether I use traditional fold-up maps or print out more detailed versions from online travel websites, I typically have plenty of paper to use in my vacation scrapbooks.

Recently, I used a map of Chicago as background paper for my summer travel memory book. I have also used maps of museums, zoos, and theme parks as a base for photos taken at the locations. A simple layout would include a map of a city, state or tourist attraction as the backdrop with a collection of photos arranged on top. The design could then be finished off with journaling blocks and stickers.

It’s important to keep track of memorabilia from a trip if you plan to create a scrapbook detailing your travels when you return home. In addition, to collecting mementos such as maps, ticket stubs, receipts, and programs, be sure to jot down any important or funny event that takes place during your travel adventures. By doing so, you will be better able to create amazing journal entries on your pages.

Another way travel mementos come in handy is to create a unique background. Instead of embellishing plain or patterned paper with stickers or stamps, use various mementos, such as native plants and flowers or sand from beaches. Then, add photos of landmarks, notable buildings or theme park rides.

Finally, put a souvenir t-shirt from your vacation to good use by featuring a portion of it in your scrapbook. You can make a t-shirt themed album by cutting out the designs of the shirt, treating the fabric with acid-free spray, and then using it as a background for your photos.
