Quest for Camelot

Young Kayley grew up with the story of King Arthur and how, on the day that she was born, a young boy stepped forward and claimed the sword from the stone to become king. Her father, Sir Lionel, is one of Arthur’s knights and it is Kayley’s dream to some day become a knight herself.

But Kayley’s world changes one day when her father is killed protecting King Arthur from a man named Ruber. She becomes more determined and grows into a young woman holding the same dream. One day, a huge griffin (a lion/eagle type creature) enters Camelot and steals the sword from Arthur. When a trumpet sounds, Kayley and the rest of Camelot know immediately that the sword has been stolen. She wishes to go after it but her mother convinces her otherwise. Kayley is determined though and when Ruber comes to her village and takes it hostage, she knows she must do something. Ruber wants Kayley and her mother to help him get into Camelot. He is also in possession of a magic potion that can join man and weapon into one creature. So, when the guards aren’t paying attention Kayley’s mother encourages her to sneak off to Camelot and warn Arthur of Ruber’s evil plan.

As she’s sneaking out of the village, Kayley learns that the griffin Ruber sent lost the sword over the Forbidden Forest. Kayley just barely escapes into the forest with Ruber’s magical guards hot on her trail. It is only because of a fortuitous chance encounter with Garrett that she is saved. Garrett lives in the forest as a hermit. He too longed to be one of Arthur’s knights but he’s blind. When he learns that Arthur’s sword is in the forest, he goes off to find it, and although he’s reluctant, Kayley follows.

Along the way Kayley and Garrett and helped (sort-of) by a two headed dragon with very different personalities and Garrett’s falcon Aiden. The three must find the sword before Ruber and return it to Camelot. The way is filled with danger and when it seems they’ve succeeded, Ruber captures Kayley and takes Excalibur and plans his final attack on Camelot.

This movie has an all-star cast of voice actors including Jessalyn Gilsig, Cary Elwes, Pierce Brosnan, Gary Oldman, Don Rickles and Eric Idle. It’s rated G, and suitable for most audiences. It’s not a perfect movie (some of the dialogue is clunky and the music transitions aren’t the best), but it’s decent family entertainment everyone can enjoy and kids won’t even notice the movie’s faults.
