Race, Race!

I have to admit that having two kids can sometimes test my patience. Now that my oldest goes to preschool, we frequently have to get up early in the morning. Getting two kids excited about getting dressed, brushing teeth, and combing their hair is hard. They often fight me. Even my littlest one will protest, “No!” when I tell him it is time to get dressed. He must see what big sister is doing.

So, sometimes, you have to get creative to get things done. So, to make it a little more fun, I started laying my daughter’s clothes out for her, and declaring it a race to see if she could get dressed faster than Mommy could get the baby dressed. It worked! We also did this for our bedtime routine.

While she may be getting bored with this game, my youngest isn’t. He is still all about the race. Maybe I did this game a little too much, seeing as he is now obsessed with it. If we are just going to the grocery store while my oldest is in school, when we get out of the car he will declare, “race! race!”

When we are walking to our back door from the garage he will say, “race! race!”

If we are eating lunch, he will sometimes yell out, “race! race!”

I’m not sure he quite knows what is going on here. Maybe he is simply thinking, “this is something that is fun that we all do and act crazy doing it. We laugh, and smile, and I like it!” This is when I wish I could see into his little brain. But, I do know that he knows that this is something that we have to do FAST! And, that works for me. Fast is always good when being an on-the-go Mom trying to get two kids out the door. So, I’ll take it.
