There are not too many reality TV shows that you can actually watch with your kids now-a-days, so here’s a list (and my review) of those shows that are still appropriate to watch together.
1. “American Idol” – Tuesdays, Fox channel
Even with Simon Cowell, it’s still a good old fashioned talent show. The music is great, the singer’s are cool, and even the audition tapes are entertaining.
2. “Dancing With the Stars” – Thursdays, ABC
To be honest, when this show first came on, I thought it was a little hokey. Now that I’ve seen it, it’s not that bad! It’s actually really cool to see celebrities who don’t excel at dancing trying something new. While I am thoroughly entertained by George Hamilton, my daughter really digs Drew Lachey.
3. “The Amazing Race” – Tuesdays, CBS
The Amazing Race completed their family edition last season, but even without the families involved, it’s still a fun show to watch. A twist on “Survivor” (there’s no naked people); it’s an exciting treasure hunt around the world.
4. “Deal or no Deal” – NBC
Talk about sitting on the edge of your seat. This game show requires contestants to pick a case full of money anywhere from $.01 to one million dollars. The catch is that the contestant has to find out what he or she has in their case by the process of elimination. Fun to watch, but if you have a weak heart, check with your doctor.
5. “Trading Spouses” – Fridays, Fox
You might think I’m crazy for including this one, but the show is actually a riot. My daughter likes to watch it with me, and to be honest, she appreciates me a whole lot more now than she did before this show aired! It’s a little quirky, but nothing like seeing a military mom in action to have my kids hugging my leg and professing their undying love!
